COUN 562 - Counseling Adolescents 3 Credit(s)
This course is designed to develop students’ knowledge and skills in the theory and practice of working with adolescents. Focus and attention of the course will be on issues, interventions, techniques and special considerations when counseling adolescents in any setting. Related topics include: developmental considerations, social and cultural factors of interpersonal issues of interpersonal issues of adolescents, gender specific and LGBT issues, multicultural family systems, use of diagnostic criteria, treatment planning issues, counseling interventions, relational and career issues, chemical and process addictions, technology, trauma focus and attachment, justice involved adolescents, sexually maladaptive behaviors and legal and ethical considerations.
