Note for the Associate of Science, Engineering Emphasis Degree
This Associates degree plan requires only 6 credits from General Education Area IV rather than the standard 9 credits and is an exception in that regard. This exception is necessary due to the external engineering accreditation requirements by ABET which results in a bachelor’s degree of 129 credits rather than the usual Colorado maximum of 120 credits. Every engineering degree in the state of Colorado has a “general education waiver” from the common GT-Pathways curriculum requirements. This degree plan exceeds the standard 60 credit hour associate’s degree limit by 2 credits, but corresponds to slightly less than half the credit hours required for a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. This will require an exception by the Colorado Department of Higher Education, but such exceptions have already been awarded for associate’s degrees in engineering at other institutions. |
